BigBloc Construction Sets-Up Joint Venture with SIAM Cement Group for New Plant in Gujarat

Introduction

BigBloc Construction Limited (BCL) is engaged in the business of manufacturing building blocks and AAC (Aerated Autoclave Concrete) Bricks. The company was established in the year 2015 with a view to creating an international presence in the global arena through its products.

BigBloc Construction Joint Venture with SCG

Thailand’s SIAM Cement Group (SCG International) has entered into a joint venture with Gujarat-based BigBloc Construction (BCL) to commission a greenfield project to manufacture Aerated Autoclaved Concrete (AAC) Blocks and AAC panels. The joint venture between Siam Cement Group and BigBloc Construction India has selected Gujarat for the first maiden foreign direct investment (FDI) from Siam Cement Group into India.

The joint venture company – Siam Cement BigBloc Construction Technologies has been formed with 52% being held by the Gujarat Company and 48% by SCG group. The JV will invest Rs 65 crore in the Kheda district near Ahmedabad for the manufacturing of new-age building materials.

The land acquisition process has been completed and JV will be able to start commercial operation by the end of 2023.

The joint venture is a great opportunity for both parties to work together and share knowledge, promote mutual growth, and bring new-age building materials to Indian markets. The project can be expanded to 5 lakhs CBM per annum in the second phase with approval from both joint venture parties.

Bigbloc Construction Limited currently has a 5.75 lakh cubic meters AAC block manufacturing capacity and is also expanding its capacity at its Wada plant in Maharashtra. “We are adding 5 lakh cubic meter capacity in Maharashtra and the joint venture project will add 3 lakh cubic meter capacity so after this expansion, our total manufacturing capacity will be 13.75 lakh cubic meters,” said Mr. Saboo.

Mr. Mohit Saboo, also said that the construction sector is witnessing strong momentum in the market and usage of AAC blocks is increasing against red bricks and margins have also improved post-Covid.
